Everything for the Past 7 days

Hello there. It's been since 7-8 days ago I last updated my blog. Camps, programs all in my schedule. Let me start from the day where all PERMATApintar students went for a co-curricular camp in Hulu Langat.  Before the reaching there, I thought that that place would be like a resort or like a suitable camping site. To my surprise, once we reach there, that place was not as nice as I thought but still I was amazed by the river next to our camp site. When it's time to bath, I looked for the toilet everywhere and guess what, instructors told us that there's one toilet within a walking distance from our campsite and that toilet was smelly and dirty. Left without any choices, everyone bathed in the river and for me, I wasn't sure whether to bath in the river or not because I am not sure of the cleanliness of the water. But what to do since that's the only place where we can clean ourself. Everyone jumped into the river and 'bathed' there. I don't call it bathing because I don't think that the water is clean and it's more to soaking ourselves in water to cool down and relax. For the food, it was okay. Since I am in the Red Crescent Society, we were briefed on how to perform first-aid and CPR as well as on what to do during an emergency like earthquake and flood. The activity that I enjoyed the most throughout that camp is jungle trekking. We have two guides(ex-army) who brought us around the jungle. There were one spot where we need to cross the river with our shoes tied to our legs. And of course our shoes got wet, but what can we do since that's the only way to cross the river. There's once spot where the road was so steep that we need to hold each other's hands. I can't write much on my experience there because if I write everything, it would be two to three pages long. As soon as we reach back our hostel, many of the students started to vomit and even my neighbour vomited in front of my room. I was shocked but I thought that he vomited because of food poisoning. As time goes by, many of us started to vomit, high fever, headache as well as having diarrhoea. I knew that there's something wrong. Rumours began to spread that it was rat urine disease from the river. And guess what, when I check from the internet , it is true that that river, Sungai Congkak is famous for causing rat uring disease. Symptoms shown by student are almost the same. Students began going to Pusat Kesihatan and only given a small quantity of medicine. I really pity them. Some even had to go to the hospital for further treatment. But as of now where I am writing this blog post, most of us has completely recovered. That experience really made me not to go to other camps in the future unless that campsite is certified clean. Coincidentally, the water in our campus have some sort of weird smell and people said that it's contaminated. Luckily at night water tankers arrive to supply water to us.
Now let me talk of my experience throughout the Nobelist Mindset Programme. Of course throughout the programme, I enjoy the food where our cafe don't serve usually. But that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is the experience and knowledge gained throughout the whole programme. From the first day, my instructor, Ms Stephanie Wortel has been so passionate in teaching all of us. We learned various knowledge as well as qualities needed by us to be a Nobel laureate. Being a Nobel laureate is not as easy as ABC but we need to have good communications skill, good knowledge in science as well as be determined and passionate on what we are doing. I learned many things and if you want to know more you can PM me in Facebook because it will be a long story if I type it out here. One of the memorable experiences I had is meeting Sir Richard 'Rich' Roberts, the 1993 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology/Medicine. He liked to be called Rich, that is why I put two ' up there. Other than that, I was very lucky to meet a few young scientists from various universities around Malaysia. They really motivated me to strive harder to be a successful person in the future. On Friday evening, participants of Nobelist Mindset Program 2 were given a chance to speak to professors who have been given grants in doing their researches and people from the Ministry of Education. I can improve my communications skill from that small event. After that, I went back since there's no water around our campus. Now, I am writing this from the language lab in our school. See you tomorrow where I will update my blog.
